A Victorian silver inkstand, J. Gloster & Son, London, 1896.

The inkstand is of oblong form with a reeded border and on claw and ball supports; it is fitted with two cut glass inkwells and a central taperbox, length 29.2cm.

Engraved above the front pen well is: “David Baroni de Burghley uxorem ducenti dd E et RCP MCMXXIX.”

This refers to David, Lord Burghley (1905-1981), who became 6th Marquess of Exeter on the death of his father in 1956.
