This carries a silver plaque inscribed with the words: ‘Presented to William Alleyne Cecil Marquess of Exeter A.D.C. etc. on his appointment to the Honorary Colonelcy of the 3rd and 4th Batallions Northamptonshire Regiment, Late Northamptonshire and Rutland Militia by past and present Officers of the Regiment in token of their esteem and affection in recognition of his valuable services during an active command of forty-one years AD 1888’.
