The model is realistically cast and sits on a naturalistically chased oblong plinth. It represents one of the dairy shorthorn cattle from the prize-winning herd bred by William Alleyne, 3rd Marquess of Exeter (1825-1895), on the Burghley Home Farm. Individual beasts won many prizes and awards, as did the herd as a whole.
