A Turkish or Indian hardstone spoon, 17th Century.

The spoon appears in the inventory at Burghley known as the 1690 Devonshire Schedule. This recorded an immense bequest from the 3rd Countess of Devonshire to her daughter Anne, wife of John, 5th Earl of Exeter and comprised the entire contents of her suite of private apartments at Chatsworth. Under the heading ‘Cornelian Coralls, Garnetts and other Stones’ appears: ‘A Cornelian spoone with a white Cornelian Handle’.
