The glass has a moulded pan-topped bowl and is set on a Silesian stem and moulded foot. The term Silesian refers to the rather heavy pedestal stem, of a type which came into vogue when the Hanoverian George I became King of England in 1714. The style was thought to have originated in Silesia where it was very popular.
