A silver basket-weave basket, German, late 17th Century.

The basket is oval in form, with an applied gilt handle and enamelled animals on the lid: two green frogs and two red and gold beetles, length 6.9cm.

This is a very rare survival; a tiny and less illustrious version of a basket made in Augsburg around 1610 for Duke Philip of Pommern-Stettin which was worked on by twelve different craftsmen.
