The box is decorated with a landscape on oki-hirame ground and the interior fitted with small boxes with landscapes depicted on the lids, the diameter is 11.7cm.
The 1835 Burghley Inventory records: ‘Japan Closet, Japan in the Glass case opposite the door(s), sic, A round Box with smaller ones fitted inside B & G.’
