A Sèvres coffee-can and saucer, circa 1780/85.

Each painted with a band of formal scrolling foliage reserved on a green-striped orange ground detailed in gilding. Both carry interlaced Ls and LG marks on the base and the saucer, which is 12cm. in diameter, also carries a crown and an applied sticker with the name I. Exeter and the date 1901. Isabella Exeter (d. 1917) was the widow of Brownlow, 4th Marquess of Exeter (1849-1898). 1901 was the year in which her son William, 5th Marquess of Exeter (1876-1956) was married to Myra Orde Powlett (1879-1973).
