A set of three George II silver-gilt sugar vases.

These elegant sugar vases, of rococo baluster form, are finely chased throughout, including shells at the shoulders. Scrolled handles support two sugar sifters and a cream ladle and the covers are surmounted by strawberry finials. The vases are engraved with the Cecil crest below an earl’s coronet and carry the mark of Edward Wakelin of London (d.1784) and the date 1755. There is an identical set of three sugar vases, also by Wakelin, but dated 1753, in the Burghley Collection.
