The octagonal tubs are of chamfered, rectangular form and are decorated with birds, winged insects and sprays and sprigs of flowers.
Each domed cover is surmounted by a strawberry knop with applied leaves, height 12cm, length 12.7cm.
The 1804 Burghley Inventory, which describes them as cups, records: ‘No. 103 Closet to No. 54 or 3rd George room, 6 octagon strawberry top’t cups & covers.’
