A set of gilt-mahogany seat furniture, comprising a sofa and ten armchairs, George III, circa 1780.

The chairs and sofa have upholstered, curved rectangular backs and seats with leaf-carved and moulded down-curved padded arms and guilloche-carved rails; the fluted turned tapering legs have waterleaf capitals and paterae headers.

Most of the set has been regilded.

The 1763 Burghley Inventory records: ‘the picture room….10 chairs in carv’d and guilt frames, covered with Blue damask.’
