A set of four George III oval silver soup tureens, covers and stands, John Parker & Edward Wakelin, London, 1769.

The tureens, with liners, are decorated with quilted fluting and reed and tie borders with scroll foliage handles at each end and four scroll feet; the covers with reeded ring handles,

The two-handled shaped oval stands have reeded borders and are decorated with foliage at intervals; overall width 47.9cm.

There are four soup ladles with shell bowls and shaped tops chased with foliage.

They are engraved with the coat-of-arms of Cecil impaling Townshend, for Brownlow, 9th Earl of Exeter (1725-1793), who married in 1749 Letitia, daughter and heiress of the Hon. Horatio Townshend.
