A set of eighteen silver-gilt dessert plates, mark of Robert Garrard, London, 1844.

The plates have gadrooned rims and are engraved with the Exeter arms beneath a marquess’s coronet.

The date suggests that they were probably purchased in preparation for the Royal visit of 1844 when Queen Victoria and Prince Albert spent three days at Burghley.
