A rock crystal ewer, Italian, Miseroni workshop, circa 1600.

Mounted, perhaps in England in the 17th Century, in enamelled gold, set with rubies, spinels, a garnet and diamonds. The helmet-shaped bowl is engraved with leafy scrolls, fruit and swags, with a handle of angular section; the mount to the handle, the front of the bowl and the foot are pierced and enriched with white, blue and black enamel and set with stones and a ruby cameo of Queen Elizabeth, 18cm high, 8cm wide, 17.5cm deep. The ewer was part of an immense bequest from the Countess of Devonshire to her daughter, Anne, wife of John, 5th Earl of Exeter, which is known as the 1690 Devonshire Schedule, or Deed of Gift.
