A quartz snuff bottle, 1800-1880.

The bottle is of pebble form, the agate body with green, russet and white inclusions which have been carved to depict two storks perched within a pine tree and with a prunus to one side, 6cm.

The skill of the carver in making use of the different layers of colour in the stone is outstanding, even to the eyes of the birds which are also rendered in differing, naturally occurring colour.
