A Portrait of Charles XII of Sweden (1682-1718), School of Per Krafft.

Oil on canvas, 82.5cm by 66cm.

Charles XII was King of Sweden from 1697-1718, succeeding to the throne at the age of fifteen.

He was a soldier, a brilliant military leader and strategist who led his country against a Triple Alliance of northern and eastern European countries.

He also introduced important tax and legal reforms to Sweden.

Per Krafft the Elder (1724-1793) was a Swedish portraitist.

He was the father of Per Krafft the Younger, a portraitist and history painter and Maria Wilhelmina Krafft, a painter and portrait miniaturist.
