A Portrait of a Gentleman, 18th Century Follower of Rembrandt (1606-1669).

Oil on panel, 48.5cm by 40.3cm.

This portrait, thought in the past to be of Rembrandt’s father, was perhaps by Thomas Worlidge (1700-1766), who was born in Peterborough and noted for his etched and painted imitations of Rembrandt.

It was left to Brownlow, 9th Earl of Exeter (1725-1793); a label on the reverse stating: ‘For the Earl of Exeter Left him by Mrs Jane Wilkinson.’

It is a pair to PIC125.
