A pale lime green glass snuff bottle, Chinese, 1800-1900.

The transparent green glass, imitating tourmaline, is crisply carved in the form of a flattened melon enveloped by large leaves and stalks trailing tendrils, 4.2cm.

After the end of the 19th Century when the demand for Chinese snuff bottles increased considerably, many finely carved early pendants, amulets and hard stone carvings were converted into snuff bottles.

This bottle was probably originally a pendant.
