A pair of tall square vases, Chinese, Kangxi (1662-1722).

Each side is painted in underglaze blue with flowers emblematic of the seasons.

Spring symbolised by peony flourishing among jagged rockwork.

Summer with lotus rising from a pool.

Autumn conjured by a mass of attenuated chrysanthemum.

And Winter with blossoming prunus.

The trumpet neck is decorated with tree peony and bamboo, height 46.5cm.
