A pair of small blue-glazed stem bowls, Chinese, Transitional, third quarter 17th Century.

Of wide campana form, each bowl is lightly incised with lotus meander and supported on a tall spreading foot.

The interior and base have a bluish white glaze; the rim and foot fitted with silver-gilt mounts, 5.5cm.

The 1690 Devonshire Schedule, an inventory listing an enormous bequest to Anne, Countess of Exeter (1649-1703), from her mother Elizabeth, Countess of Devonshire (1619-1689), records under ‘Lesser China garnisht with silver Guilt’: ‘A pair of Blue Cups with White within ffoot and Rimm garnisht.’
