A pair of small blue-glazed stem bowls, Transitional, third quarter 17th Century.

Of wide campana form, each bowl is lightly incised with lotus meander and supported on a tall spreading foot. The interior and base have a bluish white glaze and the rim and foot are fitted with silver-gilt mounts. They are 5.5cm in height.
The 1690 Devonshire Schedule, an enormous bequest to Anne, Countess of Exeter from her mother Elizabeth, Countess of Devonshire records under ‘Lesser China garnisht with silver Guilt’: A pair of Blue Cups with White within ffoot and Rimm garnisht’.
