A pair of small Arita blue and white boxes and covers, Japanese, early 18th Century.

Each box is moulded in the form of an aubergine and painted in underglaze blue, 5.2cm wide.

One is decorated with an artemisia leaf among beribboned sprays of blossom, the other with chrysanthemum flowers floating on a stream, in a classic Japanese allusion to longevity and immortality,
