In 1844 Queen Victoria and Prince Albert paid a three day visit to Burghley. There was a great programme of refurbishment prior to the Royal visit and several early silver-gilt services were increased in number. The date of these elegant sugar vases suggests that they were also bought with the Royal visit in mind.
