The 1763 Burghley Inventory records: ‘the dining room, 4 George room……2 Mahog’y fluted stands with Busts white Marble. Heads of J’hn 5th Earl of Exeter & his Lady.’
The 5th Earl bought several other marble sculptures from Monnot and commissioned a spectacular tomb for the couple to be placed in the family Church of St. Martin’s in Stamford.
