A pair of Japanese Imari oviform ewers, early 18th Century.

The ewers, which are 25cm in height, are decorated in iron-red, underglaze blue and gilding, with peony, chrysanthemum, autumnal flowering grasses and poppy; the main blooms moulded in shallow relief, above a basal frieze of floral meander. The tall narrow neck is embellished with pendant foliage and the handle and spout with scrolling karakusa.
