A pair of Imari oviform ewers, Japanese, early 18th Century.

The ewers are decorated in iron-red, underglaze blue and gilding, with peony, chrysanthemum, autumnal flowering grasses and poppy.

The main blooms are moulded in shallow relief, above a basal frieze of floral meander.

The tall narrow necks are embellished with pendant foliage; the handles and spouts with scrolling karakusa, 25cm.
