A pair of Kakiemon octagonal deep bowls, Japanese, late 17th Century.

The exteriors of the bowls are painted in orange-red, turquoise, cerulean, black and gilding with four repeated sprays of chrysanthemum, plum, peony and iris.

The flat everted rims are decorated with trailing flowers within a brown upturned edge and each interior has a central five branch `snowflake’ floret, 10cm wide.
