The 1738 Burghley Inventory records: ‘Lady Exeter’s Closet … 2 Stools, japan’d frames, covered with the same as the hangings’.
The Lady Exeter referred to was Hannah Sophia, wife of Brownlow, 8th Earl of Exeter (1701-1754).
