A pair of Kakiemon teabowls and trembleuse saucers, Japanese, 18th Century.

Decorated in the Kakiemon palette, which includes cerulean, turquoise, iron-red, black and gold.

The almost conical teabowls are painted with a bijin, a lady in the Court dress of the Kambun era (1661-1673).

She carries a bouquet, whilst to her right, there are flowers and grasses rising from banded hedges; the interior with a blossoming plum branch.

The saucers are painted with a bijin in the Court dress of the Heian era (794-1185), and with insects and flowers.
