A pair of Imari waisted and everted jardinières, Japanese, early 18th Century.

The jardinières are of compressed thistle, or campana form, decorated in underglaze blue, iron-red, aubergine, yellow and black.

Sprays of chrysanthemum and blossoming prunus are depicted amongst rocks, the design spilling over into the interior, which is further enhanced with a central clump of iris and peony.

The short footring is painted with whorl motifs below a frieze of stiff leaves, 23.1cm high, 36.5cm in diameter.
