A pair of gilt-bronze-mounted Sèvres-style cachepots, 19th Century.

The cachepots are painted with classical figure subjects in oval panels within a tooled gilt frame reserved on a bleu céleste ground decorated in gilding with oeil-de-perdrix.

They appear in a Burghley Inventory of 1854: ‘Red Drawing Room. On the Book Cases…..Two Sevres Porcelaine Vases Blue mounted in Or Molu with Or Molu handles, under glass shades, bought 1823.’

The date suggests that they were purchased by Brownlow, 2nd Marquess of Exeter (1795-1867).
