A pair of Kakiemon figures of youths, Japanese, circa 1670/90.

Each figure is shown casually seated upon a drum, both hands holding tasselled cords attached to a double gourd bottle slung over their right shoulder.

The decoration is in the Kakiemon palette, including turquoise, cerulean, red and black.

The 1688 Burghley Inventory records: ‘My Lords Dressing Roome…. China over ye Chimney…..2 figures with Juggs att theire backs.’
