A pair of bowls and covers, Japanese, 18th Century.

The bowls are decorated in underglaze blue and with overglaze enamels in iron-red, green, black and gold, depicting song birds perched on the undulating stems of a lotus band.

The flat rims have karakusa scrolls interrupted by flowerheads and the covers are surmounted by shishi, 10.2cm high, 12.8cm diameter.
