A pair of bowls and covers, Japanese, 18th Century.

The bowls are decorated with song birds perched on the undulating stems of a lotus band, in underglaze blue and overglaze enamels, iron red, green, black and gold.

The flat rims are decorated with karakusa scrolls inset at intervals with flowerheads and the covers, with similar decoration are surmounted by shishi, 10.2cm high, 12.8cm in diameter.
