A pair of Arita blue and white wavy-edged dishes, Japanese, late 17th/early 18th Century.

The centre of each dish is painted with a peony emanating from pierced rockwork, in a garden bound by a banded hedge. 

The cavetto is decorated with meandering peony; the underside of the rim with trailing foliage. 

Each base has five spur marks where the dish rested on its sagger during firing, 32cm in diameter.
