A pair of Arita blue and white wavy-edged dishes, late 17th/early 18th Century.

The centre of each dish, which measure 32 cm in diameter, is painted with a peony emanating from pierced rockwork, in a garden bound by a banded hedge.  The cavetto is decorated with meandering peony and the underside of the rim with trailing foliage. Each base has  five spur marks where the dish rested on its sagger during firing.
