A nephrite snuff bottle, Chinese, 1800-1900.

The bottle is carved with raised circular panels on each side and a shallow footrim, 5.5cm.

Nephrite, like jadeite, comes under the general umbrella of jade, although each has a slightly different chemical composition.

It has been known to the Chinese for thousands of years.
