A glass snuff bottle, Chinese, 1700-1800.

The bottle is of shield shape, with a clear body suffused with waves of green edged in white, 5.3cm.

It is one of a distinctive group, each of which was blown into a mould.

The decoration was then applied, using various metallic oxides to give the different colours, this layer was then covered by a clear glass layer to fix and protect the decoration.

This particular bottle, with the clarity and brightness of its colours and the circular flowing movement of the patterns, is widely regarded as being one of the most stunning examples of the group.

Attributed to Beijing.
