The mounts and scrolling handle of this exquisite little piece are decorated with green and black enamel on a white ground; the lid is hinged, 4.5cm high.
The flagon was part of a vast bequest from Elizabeth, Countess of Devonshire (1619-1689), to her daughter Anne, Countess of Exeter (1649-1703), which is recorded in an inventory known as the 1690 Devonshire Schedule, or Deed of Gift.
