The octolobate body is carved with scrollwork, beading and stylised flowers; the urn-shaped stem encircled with two bands of enamelled gold, above a circular foot, 10.8cm high.
The standing bowl appears in the 1690 Devonshire Schedule, or Deed of Gift, which records an immense bequest from Elizabeth, Countess of Devonshire (1619-1689), to her daughter Anne, Countess of Exeter (1649-1703).
This lists under ‘Christalls Garnisht and plaine’: ‘A wrought Ribd Christall ovall Cupp upon an Ovall ffoot sett togeather in Two plates with Gold and Black enamel.’
