A late 19th Century garniture of Gien ‘faience fine’ vases.

The vases are decorated in a deep rose pink, after Niderviller originals.

Niderviller in Lorraine is one of the most famous French manufacturers of the tin-glazed earthenware known as faience.

The factory began producing faience in 1735 and still does today, decorating its wares predominantly in a deep magenta pink.

The Faiencerie de Gien was founded in 1821 in Gien, in the Val de Loire by an Englishman, Thomas Edme Hall and is still producing faience today.
