A large pair of Chinese baluster jars and covers, Kangxi (1662-1722).

The jars, which are 59cm in height, are painted in underglaze blue and famille verte enamels, with four petal-shaped panels each enclosing peony, prunus, chrysanthemum or lotus, with attendant birds and butterflies reserved on a yellow ground embellished with dense scrolling foliage. The necks and domed covers are decorated with butterflies among trailing and scattered flowers, the onion knop has an iron-red and gilt chrysanthemum flowerhead,
