A large pair of Chinese baluster jars and covers, Kangxi (1662-1722).

The jars are painted in underglaze blue and famille-verte enamels, 59cm.

Four petal-shaped panels enclose peony, prunus, chrysanthemum or lotus, with birds and butterflies.

These are reserved on a yellow ground embellished with dense scrolling foliage.

The necks and domed covers are decorated with butterflies among trailing and scattered flowers; the onion knop with an iron-red and gilt chrysanthemum flowerhead.
