A Miniature of a Lady, by J. Salvio, signed and dated 1713.

Pen and ink and grey wash, rectangular, in a lacquered wood frame, 6.5cm.

The figure is depicted head and shoulders, wearing a veil; the delineation of the features formed by minutely written texts from the Scriptures and Prayers.

This type of virtuoso draughtsmanship was one of the more eccentric directions taken by early 18th Century miniaturists.
