A grisaille Medallion of Putti playing musical Instruments, surrounded by a Garland of Flowers, by Alec Cobbe (b. 1945), in the manner of Piat Joseph Sauvage (1744-1818).

As a young man, Alec Cobbe studied medicine at Oxford, before completely changing career direction to become a painter.

He trained at the Tate as an art conservator and for many years has advised on the redecoration of historic English country houses.

His grisaille medallion, with two by the 18th Century Belgian artist, Piat Joseph Sauvage, PICs 847 & 849, form the overdoors in one of the drawing rooms at Burghley.
