A gold, amethyst and diamond demi-parure and a pair of matching amethyst pendant earrings, 1871.

The large oval amethyst of the brooch/bracelet is set within a gold and rose diamond cusped mount; the pendant earrings are similarly set and each is surmounted by a marquess’s coronet set with pearls, emeralds and rubies. The brooch/pendant was originally also intended as a pendant and the set includes a gold collar. The case, by Londen & Ryder, 1871, is tooled with the inscription: “To the best of wives and mothers from her affectionate husband April 30, 1871 GSC”. This was a gift from William Alleyne, 3rd Marquess of Exeter to his wife Georgina Sophia Cecil.
