A glass snuff bottle, Chinese, 1720-1850.

The bottle is of flattened form, with raised circular panels on each side.

The body is suffused with reddish brown patches beneath a clear glass overlay, imitating chalcedony; an imitation which is unusually successful, 5.7cm.

Attributed to Beijing.

The Chinese delighted in copying various materials, particularly hardstones, in glass or porcelain.
