A George III satinwood lady’s writing screen, circa 1785.

The hinged front encloses a fitted interior with a reading slope; the reverse with a shelf.

The end standards are joined by a leaf-carved turned stretcher, on overscrolled legs and castors, 116cm by 156cm.

The 1804 Burghley Inventory records: ‘No. 63, Blue Drawing room, a sattin wood screen writing table.’
