A George III mahogany dressing chest, by Mayhew & Ince, circa 1770.

The rectangular top with canted corners above a frieze drawer fluted and centred by a raised panel carved with a patera and husks.

The drawer encloses a baize-lined slide and divisions above three long drawers.

The canted, fluted sides are headed by carved paterae and raised on bracket feet, 91cm by 106cm.

This chest is a near pair to FUR0107.

The London firm of John Mayhew and William Ince were the principal suppliers of fine furniture to Brownlow, 9th Earl of Exeter (1725-1793).
