Mounted in a square ebonised wood frame, 6.4cm.
The plaque, in 15th Century gothic style, shows both figures seated against a red ground; the Madonna with a book open on her lap.
It is, in fact, now considered most probably to be from the late 19th or early 20th Century and of German origin.
