A damascened metal snuff bottle, seal mark and period of Qianlong, (1736-1795).

The decoration on the bottle is applied in beaten silver wire to depict flowering lotus scrolls on a cross-hatched ground beneath five bats on the shoulders; it has a matching stopper, 7.8cm.

Metal bottles are uncommon and this particular technique, although found on other Chinese vessels such as incense burners, is very rare on a snuff bottle.
