A damascened metal snuff bottle, Chinese, Qianlong (1736-1795).

The decoration on the bottle is applied in beaten silver wire to depict flowering lotus scrolls on a cross-hatched ground, with five bats on the shoulders and a matching stopper, 7.8cm.

Metal snuff bottles are uncommon and this particular technique, although found on other Chinese vessels, such as incense burners, is very rare on a snuff bottle.
