A champlevé enamel snuff bottle, Chinese, Qianlong, (1736-1795).

The bottle is of rounded form, decorated on each side with stylised archaistic dragons enclosing a central shou medallion.

The shoulders are decorated with detached lotus scrolls beneath a ruyi head collar on the neck, with matching stopper, 5.3cm.

Champlevé enamels take the cloisonné technique one stage further, in that only certain parts of the decoration are enamelled, standing away in relief from the unenamelled body.
