This figure of a fisherman’s wife was modelled after a Meissen original by the noted Flemish craftsman, Joseph Willems (1716-1766) who was considered to be the finest of the Chelsea modellers. Most of the figures produced by the Chelsea manufactory during the Red Anchor period (1752-6) were either derived from Meissen originals, or heavily influenced by them. They often featured peasants, artisans and members of the Commedia dell’ Arte.
